GO Serve Teams

For those who are ready to take that next step towards obedience by following Jesus in baptism, our Baptism Team is there to help them navigate their One Story and provide them with shirts, shorts, or other needs for baptism. They meet with anyone interested in baptism before service to walk them through not only the logistics but also the incredible encounter with the Holy Spirit that comes through getting baptized.

Meet baptism candidates in the Discovery Room, walk them through what to expect, and help them get set up with their T-shirt and One Statement.

Assist the baptism candidate through the process during baptism by directing them at the right time, handing them off to the person baptizing them, and being ready with a towel afterward.

Close off bathrooms for baptisms and provide people with their clothes and accessories afterward to change back into.

Tidy and Clean Up:  Help with organizing and cleaning classrooms to turn over and prepare the building for our Early Learning Center ministry

Our prayer team is a group of intercessors who pray with those walking through our doors. They intercede on behalf of the worship and message. They have time during the service and after when they are available at the altar to pray with those who need prayer. At the end of service, they join our ushers in praying with those who have exchanged their life for the life of Jesus and providing them a bible.

Role(s)
Altar Ministry

Stand in front of the stage or in the back rows when invited by the worship leader/pastor. As people come forward for prayer, listen to their requests, then lay hands on them (if the person is comfortable and gives permission), and begin to pray over them and intercede on their behalf.

Service Intercession

After the Altar Ministry, intercede backstage during the service for the pastor and congregation. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide and lead you. Take notes as led by the Holy Spirit and share what you prayed for and any specific words, directions, or revelations you received from the Holy Spirit with the prayer team in the Prayer Team Chat (and the pastor if applicable).

Salvation Call First Responder

Greet the person who raised their hand, hand them a Bible, talk with them briefly regarding their decision, and be willing to pray with them. Please wait for them to fill out the “First Responder Card” from and then drop it in one of the offering boxes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Serving on a GO serve team is more than just filling a role; it's a partnership of carrying out our mission as a church. We do ask everyone who serve on a GO serve team to commit to Great Oaks as a Mission Partner. To sign up for an upcoming Mission Partner Workshop

Some serve areas may require certain skill levels or past experience to begin serving right away (like Safe Team or Worship Team). However, most of our serve teams do not require any prior experience and our leaders aim to equip you and set you up for success as you use your gifts to glorify God and build up the Church.

To best protect our congregation, we do run background checks on all volunteers who serve in high-risk areas or with minors at our church (GO Kids, GO Students, Safe Team, and for other select roles).

This may depend on your serve area - from once a month to multiple times a week. Talk to your team leader about how frequently you are able to serve.

Your spiritual growth matters deeply to us and we have our volunteers commit to attend one service and serve at the other on Sunday mornings.

There are a few exceptions, such as teams that serve before service starts (Setup Team) or teams that are able to serve and attend the same service (Ushers or Production Team).

We schedule all of our teams through Planning Center Services. This is an app that you can download on your phone or view on a web browser to see your serving schedule, set your serving preferences & blockout dates, and more! Your team leader will send you an invite to Services as a part of your onboarding process. Your schedule can also be viewed in the Church Center App under "My Schedule".
